Hilton and American Express will provide 20,000 hotel room nights at no cost to residents displaced by fires in the Los Angeles area.
The initiative will be coordinated through 211 LA, a local nonprofit that is managing room distribution to Angelenos in need. Those seeking accommodations can apply online.Â
The move comes as the hospitality industry mobilizes to support evacuees, with Airbnb also joining forces with 211 LA to offer free, temporary housing for people fleeing the fires.Â
The Hotel Association of Los Angeles (HALA) has shared a list of more than 350 hotels across Southern California that have stepped up to offer discounted rates to displaced Angelenos.
HALA said it’s working with Google to produce real-time updates on hotel availability and discounts, with this information integrated into Google searches for hotels in the greater Los Angeles area. As a result, Google has added a “discounted for displaced individuals” identifier to participating properties in its results.
