At New York JFK, Delta opens its first premium airport lounge

Delta has opened its first premium lounge, the Delta One Lounge at New York’s JFK International Airport.

Located between Concourses A and B in Terminal 4, adjacent to the main security checkpoint, the 39,000-square-foot lounge is the first of its kind and larger than any Delta Sky Club, Delta said.

The Delta One Lounge is available to same-day departing or arriving Delta One ticketed passengers and Delta 360° members departing or arriving on a same-day ticket in Delta first class. 

Also, customers flying same-day departing or connecting flights operated by some Delta partners are eligible: Air France La Premiere and Business Class (long-haul), LATAM Premium Business Class, KLM Business Class, Korean Air First Class and Prestige Class, and Virgin Atlantic Upper Class.

At the check-in area, Delta One customers will be greeted by a team of “elite service agents,” said Delta, providing warm towels and light refreshments. This fall, the check-in area will feature a private TSA screening lane.

The lounge offers a variety of services and amenities, from fine dining to spa-like wellness treatments.

Claude Roussel, vice president of Delta Sky Clubs and lounge experience, said the Delta One Lounge “raises the bar across the board, from the amenities to the food and beverage offerings to the level of personalized service. We want our guests to feel the difference here; moreover, we want them to feel welcomed and valued from the moment they step through the door.”

The lounge features a 140-seat Brasserie restaurant delivering a three-course meal service. The Market and Bakery, with white marble inspired by delicatessen food counters from yesteryear, serves items plated for walk-up service. Fan-shaped marble mosaic tiles in the Market dining area pay tribute to New York brasseries.

Patrons can sit at the bar or they can order a drink from the beverage cart making rounds in the lounge. Delta said the bar serves “elevated takes on classic cocktails” and features an art deco-inspired lighting fixture. The ceiling and fluted glass are a nod to the gold leaf ceiling and chandeliers of Radio City Music Hall, Delta said.

The overlapping strands of the Brooklyn Bridge provided inspiration for the suspended lighting fixture in the dining room.

Delta said a recently announced partnership with Missoni is reflected in the lounge, with design touches like accent pillows, vases and coffee table books bearing the signature zigzag design of the Italian fashion house.

In the wellness area, there are nine relaxation pods with massage chairs and nap chairs that can be reserved, plus treatments from Grown-Alchemist certified therapists.

Adjacent to the wellness area is the Serenity Lounge, a quiet space. The Rejuvenation Bar serves nonalcoholic beverages and fruit and herb-infused waters and juices.

Eight shower suites offer towels, bathrobes and slippers. A valet attendant is available to shine shoes and/or press clothes while guests shower.

Guests can work in one of eight individual soundproof booths located in the lounge.

Delta One Lounges at Los Angeles International and Boston Logan airports are slated to open later this year.
