Beaches Exumas Preview

Sandals Resorts just announced that Sandals Emerald Bay will be closed, renovated, and opened as Beaches Exumas.

Sandals Emerald Bay will close on Aug. 15 with renovations are expected to begin this fall.

The Beaches Exuma will feature updated accommodations, including reconfigured multi-bedroom villas, suites and connecting rooms as well as upgraded food and beverage offerings. Family-oriented amenities like a new Kids Camp, splash deck and other play areas will be added. Sandals plans to retain its Red Lane Spa and Greg Norman-designed 18-hole golf course.

In a statement, Sandals Resorts International executive chairman Adam Stewart said that Exuma is “made for families,” saying that the resort’s 6,000 feet of shoreline is a “gateway to discovering the incomparable beauty of this part of the Bahamas.”

The 500-acre Sandals Emerald Bay opened in 2010. Prior to Sandals acquiring the property, it had operated as a Four Seasons resort.

The Beaches Exuma will be the fourth all-inclusive in the Beaches portfolio, joining the Beaches Negril and Beaches Ocho Rios in Jamaica and the Beaches Turks & Caicos.

We expect that the current buildings, pools and spa will stay and additions will be made for some water features for kids and additional accommodations will be built.

Pool Review

There are currently several pools on the resort. The main pool will likely stay and be refreshed. The spa pool will likely remain as well.

There is a small quiet pool that will likely stay but could also be replaced by something new. It would make for a perfect adult only pool as well.

We will likely see additional pools if

Beach Review

One of the main attractions at Beaches Exuma is the beach. The powdery white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. stretch over a mile.

The calm, warm waters are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and various water activities, with excellent visibility for underwater exploration.

We loved that the water remained shallow for a long time as we walked out into the ocean.

We mostly stayed at the pool, but would come into the Caribbean water throughout the day. There are sun loungers, cabanas, swings and hammocks to relax in as you enjoy the beach.

This is also where you will find the water sports, including kayaking and paddleboarding, with equipment provided.

Accommodations

Breakfast on our balcony

The existing building will likely be refurbished. Many of the suites and villas will be easy to convert into suites for families.

Unlimited land sports are included, such as beach volleyball, horseshoes, croquet, bocce ball, day and night tennis, pool tables, board games, and more. There’s also a fitness center available.

In the evening there is always entertainment. We enjoyed the live saxophone and some of the performances in the evening.

Spa at Beaches Exuma

The spa will remain at Beaches Exuma, likely getting a refresh with some new tile and other touch ups.

Excursions at Beaches Exuma

The most unforgettable highlight of our trip was visiting the swimming pigs! We actually had kids on the excursion with us from another resort and they loved it!

The excursion consisted of a boat ride through the beautiful water, visiting several beaches with crystal clear water, going to an Island with a ton of iguanas and of course swimming with the pigs!

These guys were huge and came swimming towards the boat as soon as we arrived. They would swim at you trying to eat the carrots the crew provided for us. There were also little piglets we could pick up. We had heard this excursion would be fun, but it really exceeded our expectations.

Swimming with pigs is just one of the fun local adventures you can add to your stay at Beaches Exuma You can also go on an ATV sightseeing tour, visit the famous Moriah Harbor Cay National Park, and more.
