Dominican airline Arajet will begin U.S. service in April.
The carrier will fly from its bases in Santo Domingo and Punta Cana to New York JFK, Miami and San Juan. The first route, connecting Santo Domingo with Miami four-times weekly, will begin April 11.
Arajet expects to begin service to New York JFK and San Juan soon thereafter. Plans call for the carrier to fly to all three U.S. destinations from Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, with launch dates to be announced once all airport and regulatory approvals are in order.
The U.S. is a late comer to the Arajet route network, which already includes destinations ranging from Canada to Argentina. The airline utilizes a discount model, flying a fleet of 10 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, with three more expected for delivery this year.
The signing last fall of an Open Skies aviation agreement between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic eased the path toward April’s service launch.
In an interview in the fall, Arajet CEO Victor Pacheco said the carrier would serve three core markets in the U.S.: Dominican expats visiting family and friends, leisure travelers headed to Dominican beaches and connecting traffic between North America and South America.
Arajet is based in Santo Domingo and recently opened Punta Cana as a second focus city. The carrier was founded in 2022, and its majority owner is Bain Capital.
