The Americas Lodging Investment Summit will host Shatterproof’s eighth annual Hospitality Heroes Reception during the ALIS Summit in Los Angeles, Jan. 28 to 30.Â
Shatterproof is a nonprofit that aims to change the healthcare system so that people living with addiction in America have access to quality treatment based on science.
The Shatterproof reception is scheduled for Jan. 29.Â
This year’s event will honor Amanda Hite, president and CEO of hotel data firm STR, and recognize hospitality companies that have helped champion Shatterproof’s mission.
ALIS will feature a panel discussion related to addiction during its general session. Panelists will include Hite, Shatterproof founder and CEO Gary Mendell, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts CEO Geoff Ballotti, Hyatt Hotels Corp. CEO Mark Hoplamazian and IHG Hotels & Resorts chief development officer Julienne Smith.Â
Established in 2013, Shatterproof works to improve the quality and accessibility of treatment, reduce addiction stigma and provide education on prevention, treatment and recovery.Â
Since its inception, the group’s Hospitality Heroes Reception has raised more than $5 million.Â
The ALIS programming builds on a collaboration between Shatterproof and Northstar Travel Group, parent company of ALIS organizer BHN Group. Over the next year, Northstar will leverage its portfolio of 28 brands and more than 100 events to provide addiction education and resources across the hospitality sector, including guidance on fentanyl risks and alcohol use disorder.Â
“We recognize the critical impact of substance use disorder on the hospitality and travel workforce and are committed to leveraging our platforms to address this public health challenge,” said Bob Sullivan, Northstar’s chief commercial officer, in a statement. “Partnering with Shatterproof allows us to bring essential resources, awareness and support to our industry.”
The BHN Group announced that its trio of ALIS Hotel Week events — ALIS, ALIS Law and ALIS Design+ — will continue as scheduled the week of Jan. 27, despite the wildfires affecting parts of Los Angeles County.Â
