The Ultimate 7-Day Cotswolds Itinerary

The Cotswolds is easily one of England’s most charming regions, filled with picturesque villages, rolling green hills, and historic landmarks that feel like they’re straight out of a Harry Potter movie (and yep, some spots actually are!).

I spent a week exploring this magical countryside in November with a girlfriend, and it was filled with cozy autumn vibes, crackling fireplaces, and just enough holiday charm to start getting into the Christmas spirit.

From iconic gardens and fairytale towns to incredible farm-to-table dining, this itinerary has everything you need for the ultimate week in the English countryside.

Let’s dive into the perfect 7-day Cotswolds itinerary!

Getting Around The Cotswolds

To truly enjoy your trip, driving is key.

The villages are spread out and public transport can be tricky, so a car allows you to explore at your own pace.

That said, if you’d rather leave the driving (and the parking!) to someone else, I HIGHLY recommend hiring a driver. We opted for this option especially since many of the little villages are super tiny with barely any parking.

In popular spots like Bourton-on-the-Water and Bibury, if you don’t snag a parking spot, there’s not much you can do!

If you decide to drive, be prepared for windy, fast-paced roads. And remember, the UK drives on the left. If you drive an automatic transmission, book well in advance as manual transmission cars are more common here.

Best Time to Visit The Cotswolds

The Cotswolds is beautiful year-round; it depends on what you’re after!

Spring and summer bring gorgeous gardens and lush green scenery. Autumn is perfect for vibrant foliage and cozy pub evenings, while winter turns the villages into a festive wonderland with twinkling lights and fireplaces.

We visited during November, and it was stunning because all the leaves had changed colors. To top it off, we even got snow on our last day, which was absolutely beautiful.

Day 1:

Castle Combe

Welcome to one of England’s prettiest villages!

We kicked off the trip by taking an Uber (approx. £150) from London Heathrow to Castle Combe, which is in the far south of the Cotswolds.

We arrived just before sunset and checked into The Manor House, where we stayed for two nights. It was such a special experience!

Castle Combe is a dreamy little spot that feels like stepping straight into a fairytale. Within the village, you’ll discover the historic Market Cross and St Andrew’s Church, which dates back to the 13th century and even houses one of the oldest working faceless clocks in the country.

It’s also a Hollywood favorite, having featured in films like Stardust, Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, and the original Doctor Dolittle. 

This was my favorite village because there are only a few accommodations available, so you’re likely to encounter fewer tourists. One morning, I got up early and wandered the quiet streets, finding myself the only person around!

Day 2:

Bath, Corsham & Lacock

Rise and shine, it’s time to start your day with a 30-minute drive from The Manor House in Castle Combe to Bath.

Bath is the only city in the UK to be a designated World Heritage Site in its entirety. Here you can explore the iconic Roman Baths and wander the streets lined with stunning Georgian architecture – it’s a must-see on any Cotswolds trip.

Next, head to Corsham, just a 20-minute drive from Bath.

Take a walk along its charming High Street, filled with character and perfect for a quick coffee break.

End the day in Lacock, a village that feels like stepping back in time to medieval England. Its picturesque streets have been featured in Harry Potter and other films, making it a favorite for history buffs and movie lovers alike.

Return to Castle Combe for a cozy dinner and another night’s rest.

Day 3:

Bourton-on-the-Water, The Slaughters & Stow-on-the-Wold

This morning it’s time to pack up your belongings, check out of The Manor House and take a 1-hour drive from Castle Combe to Bourton-on-the-Water, often called the “Venice of the Cotswolds.”

With its stone bridges arching over the River Windrush and storybook streets lined with tearooms and shops, it’s another perfect spot to just wander and soak up the atmosphere.

On your way to Bourton-on-the-Water consider stopping in Tetbury. It’s just a short detour from Castle Combe and is known for its range of antique shops, as well as being the hometown of King Charles III and Camilla.

Next, head to The Slaughters, Upper and Lower Slaughter, two picturesque villages with tranquil streams and postcard-perfect cottages.

End your day in Stow-on-the-Wold, a historic market town where you can explore Market Square, quaint farm shops, and the famous St. Edward’s Church, known for its “hobbit door” framed by ancient yew trees.

When you’re ready to rest your feet for the day check in to your stay at Daylesford Farm.

With nearby foodie favorites like The Wild Rabbit and The Fox at Oddington, you’ll have no trouble finding the perfect spot for a cozy dinner to cap off the day.

Day 4:

Daylesford Farms & Chipping Campden

Start your morning with breakfast at Daylesford Organic. After fueling up, explore the farm’s walking trails, visit the gardens, and unwind at the incredible spa (book in advance—it’s totally worth it!).

Honestly, you could spend three days here at Daylesford Farm and never want to leave—it’s that good.

When you’re ready to set out for the day, take a 30-minute drive to Hidcote Garden, a world-renowned Arts and Crafts-inspired garden. Wander through flower beds, explore the secret corners, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this horticultural masterpiece.

Afterwards, pop over to Chipping Campden, a historic wool town with beautiful streets, charming Diagon Alley-style windows, and quaint shops that are perfect for a relaxing afternoon.

Return to Daylesford Farm for another night’s stay.

Day 5:

Broadway & Snowshill

We had a slow start to the morning at Daylesford Farm before heading to our first stop, Broadway.

Broadway is often called the “Jewel of the Cotswolds,” and it’s easy to see why.

This idyllic village is a 25-minute drive from Daylesford Farm and is a shopper’s paradise, offering some of the best boutiques in the region, with fashion, homewares, food, and unique gifts.

Don’t miss climbing Broadway Tower for the views!

When lunchtime rolls around head to Snowshill, a tiny village with winding lanes and a quirky vibe. It’s home to Snowshill Manor, a beautiful house filled with incredible collections and surrounded by gorgeous gardens. Have lunch at the Snowshill Arms, I highly recommend a classic British fish and chips!

End the day with a luxurious countryside stay by checking into The Swan Hotel in Bibury or The PIG-in the Cotswolds in Cirencester, both offering cozy charm, great food, and the perfect spot to unwind.

Day 6:

Cirencester

Today is all about exploring Cirencester, the largest town in the Cotswolds and a total hidden gem. Known as the “Capital of the Cotswolds,” it’s packed with charming tea rooms, gorgeous courtyards, and stunning Victorian mansions.

Wander through the market square, pop into the Corinium Museum to dive into the town’s Roman history, or stroll through the Abbey Grounds for a peaceful break. Don’t miss a visit to Cirencester Park, a dreamy spot for a scenic walk or a picnic.

After a day of exploring, head back to The PIG or The Swan for another night in the countryside.

Day 7:

Bibury

All good things must come to an end—but not before one last dreamy day in the Cotswolds!

For your final stop, soak up the storybook charm of Bibury, home to the most iconic row of cottages in England. Arlington Row is straight out of a fairytale, so have your camera ready!

If you’re staying in The Swan Hotel, it’s only a 5 minute walk to Arlington Row, and if you’re at The PIG, it’s a 5 minute drive.

If you have some extra time, swing by Bibury Trout Farm too, where you can explore the stunning grounds (and wildlife!), catch a fish, enjoy a barbecue, or try their delicious seasonal menu.

For the last night of your 7-Day Cotswold trip, grab dinner at The Village Pub or The Swan before returning to your accommodation.

And just like that, you’ve got a dreamy week in one of England’s most charming regions!
