With Serandipians full, Traveller Made creates another consortium

Traveller Made, parent company of Switzerland-based travel agency consortium Serandipians, has launched a new brand, Takumians.

Billed as a “younger sister to Serandipians,” Takumians was launched because the Serandipians membership has nearly reached capacity at 600.

“Since the beginning, I’ve always told people that I would have no more than 600 member travel designer agencies,” CEO Quentin Desurmont said. “I wanted to make sure they were not going to be overwhelmed by too many people.”

On average, Serandipians members have 12 staff members and do about $12 million in annual sales, Desurmont said. Right now, there are 570 members. Desurmont is still interested in filling those seats based on geography. The Serandipians network is now closed to agencies in Europe and mostly closed in Asia, but North American agencies could still be added, he said.

But for other new members, Traveller Made has created Takumians.

Traveller Made was the original name of Serandipians, but the consortium rebranded in 2021. The Traveller Made name is being brought back as an umbrella company for Serandipians and Takumians.

Takumians represents a new network of travel agencies (Desurmont prefers the term “travel designers”), destination management companies and accommodations. Its name is reflective of the Japanese term “takumi,” or master artisans in their chosen craft. The name Serandipians references its members as being believers of serendipity.

“Behind both brands, what I’m trying to do is to inspire our community that we are not just people with a phone, with a computer, and buying tickets and traveling,” Desurmont said. “We’re not doing logistics. We are trying to please the desire of the family. We’re trying to orchestrate outstanding moments they will remember for their life.”

Takumians members are similar to Serandipians, Desurmont said, but fall under the new brand. “It is just that they arrived later,” he explained.

There are already more than 50 agencies and 100 hotels that are Takumians members.

Outside of the collaborative network of agencies, DMCs and hotels, Serandipians and Takumians offer members networking opportunities, fam trips (about 30 every six months), events, data reporting and training.
